For the past few years, my family has gotten together during the Christmas season to walk up and down Washington Street in downtown Golden. We begin at Starbucks (where any good tradition should start!) and my dad treats us all to a coffee. Thanks again, Dad!! Then we set out, with the kids bundled up and the babies tucked into strollers, and take in the holiday sights. All the trees are lit up, Santa is on the "Welcome to Golden" sign and the stores have pretty Christmas window displays. We venture down the Clear Creek path a ways to see the beautiful tree lights lining the creek, then head back up the street to our cars.
So far there have been lots of memories made -- like the time Adam W. got asked to leave the Buffalo Rose (he went into the bar to check out the live music area) because he had a Starbucks in his hand, or the year it was soooo cold and Phil came woefully underdressed, or last year when it was snowing so hard that the kids were blanketed under an inch of snow by the time we were done. This year, it was unseasonably warm for December (40-ish degrees), and the highlight for Grace and Ryan was that they got their own little "coffees," which were really hot chocolate. We had a great time, once again!
