A weekend in late August seems like a safe time to plan a camping trip, right? We thought so, too, but were proven wrong, as you can see. We learned that camping at 10,600 feet at this time of year is no picnic.
Unfortunately, it rained and hailed and thundered each afternoon, and then was too wet and cold to hang out by the fire in the evenings. Thankfully the mornings were nice and the kids got to play together for a while. They had a blast, so that made it all worth it... but it wasn't all we had hoped for. We're also thankful that Grace only puked the one time. Whew.
We were supposed to stay 2 nights, but Phil actually brought me and the girls home for the second night due to the cold. He had to go back up to stay with the camper overnight and then break camp this morning. I need to be sure to salute my friends and their families, as they also stuck it out last night! I'm impressed with their fortitude! Even so, I sure enjoyed sleeping in my warm house after a long hot shower.
At any rate, here are a few photos. Maybe next year we'll plan our camping trip for sometime in July...
