This past weekend we took our first camping trip with the pop-up camper we got last Fall. We had a momentary lapse of judgment as we decided to do so on the same weekend as a wedding of one of my college friends up in Estes Park (see next post). "Hey, let's go to the wedding AND camp for the first time with a toddler and a 5 week-old! Sounds like a lot of fun!!"
Well, it was fun, but we would have been wise to spread our events out a little more. We ended up getting to our campground -- Jellystone Park -- at 1pm on Saturday (later than we meant to, as usual) and had to break camp before the wedding started at 11am Sunday morning. We also had a BBQ for the wedding on Saturday night, so we were hardly at the campsite. BUT the point of the camping trip was to get out there and do it and get to know our camper. Everything went very well and the girls were perfect, so we couldn't have asked for more. In addition to finding out how the pop-up works and how we can organize better, the main lesson we learned was that camping for less than 24 hours is probably not worth it. :) Phil also gained a new appreciation for his parents and all the work they put into preparing for the camping trips they went on when he was growing up. Wow.
Here our little camper sits on our very small campsite, perched on a hill above a camp road. It wasn't an ideal playing area for Grace, but given the small amount of time we spent there and the fact that Jellystone has TONS of stuff for kids to do, like playgrounds and a pool, she was fine. Phil deserves a medal for setting all of this up by himself, since I was otherwise occupied with nursing the baby, feeding Grace lunch and trying to find food/utensils/etc.
The front door of the camper. So cute!
Grace in her "camping bed." I can't believe she actually slept all night without disturbance, and that she stayed in her sleeping bag! I guess she was exhausted enough to sleep well.
Nora in her camping bed -- it's just a little travel bassinet that I found at a secondhand sale. It was perfect!
Grace posing with Yogi Bear near the playground.
She's workin' it! Our little monkey...
After two playgrounds and a swim in the pool, Grace crashed on Phil's lap. If Phil didn't have that cup of coffee in the foreground, he probably would be doing the same!

Camper of the month award goes to Nora -- granted, she's only a month old, but she was very resilient and pleasant the whole time!

Oh, my goodness! You guys are amazing. We would love to go camping with you guys sometime! That would be awesome. We are planning to go camping the weekend of Labor Day. We would love it if you guys joined us!! We are going to go to Hermit Park in Estes. I'll call you soon to find out if that works for you guys. Seeing Grace on the dance floor reminded me of Hannah and Katy at your wedding tearing up the floor. How fun! She and Nora are just precious. :)
