We had to make the difficult decision to return Charlie to Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue at the end of May. We'd had him for just over 6 weeks, and for the majority of that time he was doing well and fitting in with us. We were so happy with our find! He had a lot of refining to do, but he'd made great progress with his manners already. :)
Toward the end of that time, though, he started to become aggressive toward Grace. We think he felt like she was his competition for ranking in our "pack." Thursday the 28th was a very bad day for him -- lots of growling at her, positioning himself between her and me, even snapping at her -- and so with heavy hearts we decided it would be best for everyone to find him a new home, one with older children. I had lost my trust in him, and even if we did the training needed to solve the problem, I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to trust him around my girls.
We have been very sad to say goodbye to Charlie, but thankfully there is a happy ending to Charlie's story. He has been adopted by a man who lives up in the mountains who plans to hunt with him. We had the priviledge of speaking with his new owner and we're certain that they are a great match. We are so happy he's found a new home, and that he can put his considerable hunting instincts and training to good use!
We will miss you Charlie!
